It's 2009, the beginning of a wonderful new year! I've had the pleasure of co-coaching the indoor training for the Master's at Everett Rowing this Winter and will continue until we are back rowing on the water again this coming Spring. Everett Rowing serves many schools in Snohomish County, providing great opportunities for youth in rowing. I have the pleasure of inspiring adults the live long love of the sport of rowing (in the indoor fashion). Master's Rowing is for all ages and levels (new to experienced) and is a sport you can do all your life!
My most current race was the Master's National Regatta in Long Beach, California. I again raced with Master's Coaching and took 2 Bronze medals. In racing with this group we are all passionate about the sport and come together to race with little or no practice. When we race and medal they all feel like gold medals! Mayrene Earle is the coach and brings it all together for us in such a way we can't wait for the next race. I row with rowers from all over the United States with this group.
I raced in the San Diego Crew Classic this year (Spring 2008) with Master's Coaching and wow what a beautiful venue, starting with Sea World right in front of you! You warm up past the penguins and have the pleasure of sunshine and competition! Our 8 took 4th in this event.
Head of the Charles in Boston, MA USA October 2007 Each fall, rowers and spectators from around the world gather in Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts, for the two-day Head of the Charles Regatta. First held in 1965, the race was established by the Cambridge Boat Club members D'Arcy MacMahon, Howard McIntyre, and Jack Vincent, under the guidance of Harvard University sculling instructor Ernest Arlett. Each year the event attracts some 7,000 rowers and crowds in excess of 300,000 who turn out to enthusiastically cheer them on. I had the pleasure of racing in the event in the Senior Master Women’s 4+, I stroked the 4 for Martha’s Moms Rowing Club. The event was fantastic! We felt we had a good race and did our best. I was honored to be racing for the Mom's, stroking a 4 for my first time in the HOTC. We all felt like winners, thanking our coaches and coxswain along with all the other members of the Mom's Rowing team for all the encouragement.
Windermere Cup Spring 2007 I had the pleasure of racing in this event, rowing port in an 8 with Martha's Moms. We finished first across the finish line and had a great race.
I have been a member of Everett Rowing Association for 15 years and have 2 single sculls of my own I enjoy training in. I took up this sport not intending to, just took a class through the Everett Parks department, and loved it! I row both competitively and recreationally. I've raced in many races with ERA, medaling in many of them. I've also rowed with Sound Rowers and made a course record in one of their events in my age/class. For those of you that like to train on the ergometers, I trained online "virtually" went to Seattle to do Ergomania and won my age/class about 10 years ago, having come back from an injury. I give some of that credit to my surgeon, Dr Pedagana in Seattle.
